Your Favorite Hump Day Pick Me Up

farmers marketIt’s a Wednesday morning. You walk to work, get out of your car and think how much you dread going into the office today. The week is halfway over, and all you wanted to do when you got up was hit the snooze button and go back to bed. But then you remember. The Farmer’s Market is in Monument Square today! Instant perk up! You can’t help but brighten your day as you walk through the various farmers and stands that are positioned around the Square, and can be seen as you walk towards the library and take in the succulent smell of fresh produce all around you..

farmers marketIf you’re somehow not familiar with this scene, there are more fruits and vegetables to be found each week than I can explain. Corn on the cob, apples, peaches, eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes, blueberries, flowers, milk, yogurt…the list could truly go on and on. You’re going to spend money on food anyway, so why not take advantage of the fresh produce that literally comes to you? Even if you’re on a budget, the Farmer’s Market is the perfect place to pick up extremely fresh produce for the week! For $10, I got: 1 eggplant, 2 peaches, 2 pieces of corn, 4 potatoes, and a small carton of fresh cherry tomatoes.

You can make a lot with just those to supplement your meals: A pizza inspired omelette with cherry tomatoes, chicken with roasted potatoes, mashed potatoes, smoothies and delicious sweet corn on the cob. That’s really just the tip of the iceberg, because fresh produce tastes great.
